Yes. A clean warm-white gutter and fascia outline is the highest-impact, lowest-cost professional look. Trees, pillars, and colour can wait for year two, or we can create a design that fits your budget.

Not by a lot with commercial-grade LED C9s and minis. Local residential rates are about 11.9¢/kWh (Step 1) and 14.1¢/kWh (Step 2). A typical outlined home on a 5 to 6 hour timer in December usually adds a few dollars per billing period, not tens of dollars.

LED C9s are much better, because incandescent C9s are often ~7 watts per bulb while quality LED C9s are only under 1 watt. On a 150-foot roofline we're talking ~1,000 watts versus under 150 watts to compare. Big difference!

Roofline plus a couple of wrapped shrubs, dusk to 11 p.m. is commonly $2 to $8 for the month. Larger tree-heavy designs usually stay well under $20 for the season. Incandescent box-store strings are what blow up a hydro bill, which is why we only do commercial-grade LEDs.

Yes, we use light-emitting diodes. Commercial-grade LED C9s and mini lights use less power, less heat, last more seasons, and they're better at surviving a damp Island winter.

Yes. Consistent hours means less wasted overnight power, and it can also mean fewer neighbour issues on tight streets in James Bay, Fairfield, and downtown. Timers are part of the plan, and we can customize your timer to fit your needs. Typically, Christmas lights turn on in the evening as soon as they're visible and turn off late at night when everyone's trying to sleep.

Christmas lights can trip ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) if plugs sit in standing water, a cord is cracked, or the circuit is already loaded. We plan loads, use outdoor-rated connections, and keep plugs out of soggy soil and overflowing downspouts which is a real November problem on Saanich and Gordon Head lots.

Light rain is normal and we work in it. We do not install on ice, high wind, or an unsafe roof. Safety of crew and home comes first.

Not when they are clipped correctly on a sound trough. We spec for coastal wind, including southeasters at Esquimalt Lagoon, Dallas Road, and Sooke. A gutter already hanging off the fascia is the real failure point.

They need better corrosion resistance at every connection. We spec for exposure when designing your display, then we store the display indoors so salt isn't sitting in sockets all year.

You really shouldn't. UV, salt, and summer heat shorten the life of even the best-quality strands, and a Christmas outline looks tired in July. Permanent architectural lighting is a different product. For a typical plug-in seasonal display on private residential property, no. You are using existing outdoor receptacles. An electrical permit is required for new outlets, new circuits, temporary entertainment service, or other BC Electrical Code work. We design to existing GFCI-protected outdoor power whenever possible, so you don't need a permit.

No, it's the same as in Victoria. Standard seasonal display on your own home, on an existing outdoor outlet, does not normally need a municipal decoration permit. Permits only apply for new electrical work, lights on public property, large commercial signage, or street events.

No, you do not need a permit for plugging commercial-grade seasonal lights into an existing outdoor receptacle. New receptacles, new circuits, or hardwiring are electrical work that electricians do, not us We will not add wiring that should be permitted, as we only use existing plugs.

Bylaws from downtown Victoria to Langford and Colwood often limit dates, railing attachments, and street-facing displays. Some councils want lights down by a set January date. We work to your rules and can provide WorkSafeBC and $5,000,000 liability documents to council. And if your strata or neigbours have any rules we should be aware of, just tell us when you call.

Sometimes. Seasonal C9s are not the same category as permanent illuminated signage and don't need permits because we use pre-existing plugs. But for cases where new infrastructure is involved,. landlord, strata, and an electrical permit may be required.

We install commercial-grade C9s on rooflines, peaks, and architectural lines, as well as commercial-grade mini lights on trees, bushes, and tighter detail. We never use box-store products.

Warm white, cool white, red, green, blue, yellow, orange, and more. Warm white is the usual request on heritage Victoria and Oak Bay homes, while cool white reads more modern on newer Langford and Colwood builds. Yes. Every lighting plan can include the roofline, gutters, pillars, trees, and bushes. On many Greater Victoria lots the landscape does as much work as the roof. Mature evergreens in Saanich, Cordova Bay, Broadmead, and Sooke hold mini-light wraps well and stay green through December, so they carry the display even when the architecture is simple. Deciduous trees can still take trunk wraps and selected branch lines, but they look different once the leaves are gone. We design for the bare winter shape, not the October canopy. Hedges, boxwood, and foundation shrubs take shorter runs and net-style coverage only where it will sit neatly. We do not wrap a tree that is rotten, heavily mossed, or unsafe to ladder, and we will say so on the visit. Tree work is priced as part of the same quote, not sprung as an add-on after the roof is already booked.

Lighting every edge on a busy façade can make the house look noisy. Lighting the main eaves, one peak, and a single tree often looks more expensive than covering everything. You approve the plan before we source and cut the commercial-grade strands for that house.

We can aim for the same color temperature, similar bulb size, and comparable density so the street reads as one block instead of a patchwork. That matters on cul-de-sacs in Royal Oak, Broadmead, and newer Langford streets, and on character blocks in Fairfield and Oak Bay where half the houses already run warm white. Matching is not copying every peak. Your roof pitch, gutter line, tree placement, and outlet locations are different, so the plan still has to fit your house.
